In 1919 there was the 18th Ammendment which passed the act of Prohibition. A consumption and even possesion of alcohol was considered as illegal. The main purpose of this Amenment: to reduce crime and make the general status of life better. But unfortunately the opposite happened, crime increased because people were against the ban to drink alcohol. Asa a result numerous illegal bars were created and were known as speak easies. Here everyone could drink alcohol and gamble. Gangsters also smuggled alcohol and sold it to different illegal businesses. A woman of the 1920's should look like this: she should smoke, dance, ask the guys out, bobb her hair, wear baggy dresses which expose her arms and legs from the knees down, wear make up which she could easily apply in public, attend petting parties; assertive and voted.
