Decide what kind of food you are going to serve; should it be homemade traditional Hawaiian dishes or food ordered from outside, which should also depend on your budget.  Homemade food might be less expensive and a lot more fun to prepare, especially the Hawaiian dishes like Poi, Kalua Pig etc. It is essential that you have enough Leis for you and your guests. Go for the silk flower Leis which is less expensive. Grass skirts might also be lay up just in case you want to use it for fun later. Don’t forget to keep a lot of Hula Hoops for game accessories; your guests might want to have a Hula Hoop contest. It would be confusing if you have none to offer them. You can keep some coconuts too because they can also be used to play a variety of games like, “pass the coconut”.
Last but not least; prepare to keep a number of Hawaiian music CDs for the Luau party. It is necessary for playing games, dancing or just easy listening.
