Decorations
For a circus feel decorate the house and yard in as many balloons as you can. Streamers can be taped from the ceiling to walls, fanning out from the middle to look like the inside of a circus tent. If you set the streamers out in a repeating pattern, the effect looks even better, such as Red, White, Red, White, etc. For the backyard you could use rope to make a large circle on the ground, scattering the centre with straw to make a circus ring where all the action takes place. Set a carnival mood by having game tables set about the yard, or better yet have different games set inside tents like a real circus. Send invites that are made to look like circus tickets, and have an usher for the big day, tearing the tickets as guests arrive. The fun idea is to also have each guest given a clown nose and hat to wear when they come to the party. Food Popcorn is a must for a circus party! Also peanuts are a circus favourite, best served in paper bags to each guest. Pies, hotdogs and chips are also perfect for the day; and drinks will be even better when served with crazy straws. Fairy Floss is another favourite at any carnival. This might be an idea to hire a Fairy Floss machine for the day to make sure there’s enough to go around.
Games & Activities Tin Can Shoot: Set up a table with empty soup tins, either lined in a row or arranged in a pyramid. Mark a line upon the ground some distance back from the table and have the guests try to shoot the cans with a water pistol. Balloon Darts: Make gift bags full of different prizes, labelling each bag with a number. Write matching numbers on small pieces of paper and set them in balloons before blowing them up. You can tape the balloons to a fence and have the guests throw darts at the balloons, winning the prize that matches the number they find.
Tight Rope Walking:
Mark a long line across the ground by using tape or a length of rope. Players start at one end and have to spin several times before they try to walk a straight line across the Tight Rope. This game can be even more fun if guests have to carry a pole, balancing a small bucket of water at each end.
