Zoo Trip Party

Zoo Trip Party
Best Monkey Contest
You’ll need:
- Monkey Pops (see below for recipe) or other prizes
Enlist other parents, older siblings, or neighbors to be judges of the competition;
Give each “monkey” a chance to demonstrate his or her best monkey call. When all children have had a turn, you should award prizes for the loudest, squeakiest, most real, funniest, etc., so everyone wins. As a prize give everyone a Monkey Pop.

Animal Tracking zoo_animals
You’ll need:

- pencil, construction paper in a variety of colors, scissors and tape
- wild animal toys or pictures, and paper bags (be sure to use toys that won’t be a choking hazard for the youngest children at your party)

Here’s a chance for kids to track animals and collect them. Prior to the party, draw and cut out animal tracks from construction paper, using a different color for each guest. Then, hide the animal toys/pictures. Next, tape tracks to floors and furniture, leading in the direction of a matching animal. Try to space the tracks close together for little kids and farther apart for older kids. Give every child a bag, let everyone know which color to follow, and set them loose to find the animals.

Hungry Lions
The lions are famished and want antelope for lunch, so the antelope have to run for cover. Foremost, choose 1 or more kids to be the lions; everyone else is an antelope. So, when the caller shouts “Feeding time!” the hungry lions try to catch the antelope.

Kids who are caught go to a designated area called “the feeding pen,” where they must stand perfectly still, with legs straddled.

To be freed, 1 of their antelope buddies needs to crawl between their legs. The game stops when everyone’s been caught or when it seems like a good time to switch players.

Delectable Treats
Lion Pizzas
Kids will roar with delight when they create mini pizzas with happy lion faces on them.
Ingredients:
- English muffins (split in half) and pizza sauce
- toppings (sliced pepperoni, olives, mushrooms, etc.)
- cheese slices

You’ll also need butter knives and a cookie sheet.
Give each child a muffin half and ask everyone to spread on some pizza sauce;
Invite them to decorate a face using the pizza toppings;
Show how to use a butter knife to cut cheese slices into triangle shapes for lion mane pieces, and little strips for whiskers. Then instruct kids how to arrange the triangles around the outer rim of the muffin half.

- Pepperoni, olives and mushrooms can be used for the eyes, ears and nose.
- Bake the pizzas on a cookie sheet at 375 degrees for 5-10 minutes, or until cheese melts.
